Council History

2006

Congratulations to the 2006 scholarship winners and award winners.

At the 24th Annual MFSC Conference, the Council presented the Whaley Children's Center with a donation check of $1,542.90 that was raised by the conference silent auction.

2005

At the 23rd Annual MFSC Conference, the Council presented Camp Highfields with a donation check of $1,500.00 that was raised by the conference silent auction.

2004

At the 22nd Annual MFSC conference, the Council's first silent auction was conducted for charity. The Council presented Camp Highfields with a donation check of $1,480.00 that was raised by the conference silent auction. In addition, other funds raised by the auction were applied towards a scholarship program for future conference attendees.

NCSEA Excellence Award For OUTSTANDING MANAGER OF THE YEAR awarded to Andy Crisenbery, Council President, as Director of Jackson County Friend of the Court in Michigan.

The Council enters into a three-year facility contract, establishing Boyne Highlands as the conference destination through October 2006.

The Council announces availability of the new Michigan Family Support Council web site enabling Michigan child support professionals to become informed of upcoming training offerings and online registration. http://www.MiFSC.org

2003

Dr. Sherri Z. Heller, Commissioner of the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) speaks at the 2003 training conference to congratulate Michigan on Federal Certification for having a statewide child support system implemented.

The Council receives full tax-exempt status from the IRS as a non-profit corporation.

The Council enters into its first long-term facility contract, establishing Boyne Highlands as the conference destination through October 2002.

The Council establishes a web site with conference and registration information.

1998

On June 8th, the Council for the first time meets with another state's council (the Indiana Child Support Alliance). Subsequently the first out-of-state board meeting is held in Angola, Indiana on June 9.

1997

The Council holds its first-ever mid-year conference for Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA) training.

1995

The first Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton, compliments Michigan in her book It Takes a Village, acknowledging Michigan as a leader in child support enforcement while at the same time, treating fathers as more than just a wallet (at the time, Michigan is the only state to enforce parenting time orders.).

1994

On October 28th, the IRS grants probationary 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status to the Council as a non-profit organization.

1993

The Council hosts over 500 attendees at the fall conference for the first time.

1987

In March, the Council publishes and nationally distributes a pamphlet entitled "Non-Adjudicated Paternity Procedures".

1985

On July 5th, the Council incorporates as a Michigan non-profit organization.

1983

On October 7th, the first Michigan Family Support Council conference is held at the Lansing Sheraton with over 300 attendees.

1982

The first organizational meeting to consider a statewide child support council was held on Thursday, March 11 at the State Bar Building in Lansing.
